30 Highland and Island businesses to capture 360-degree videos

12 October 2016

Highlands and Islands businesses are being offered the chance to see how 360-degree video can help put their business in the frame.

Inverness-based #hellodigital, part of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), has joined forces with VR entertainment production company CryWorks Inc, based in California and with offices in Scotland, to hold seminars and hands-on workshops on 360-degree videos.

The sessions on how to shoot, produce and promote your own 360-degree video footage are open to businesses, social enterprises and community organisations and are free of charge.

There will be sessions at #hellodigital’s demonstration centre on Inverness Campus on Monday, 17 October.  There are also seminars in Oban on Wednesday, 2 November during Argyll Enterprise Week and in Lerwick on Tuesday, 6 December.

For those who want to learn how to apply the theory, there will be hands-on training sessions in Inverness on 17 and 18 October, Oban on 2 November or Lerwick on 6 and 7 December.

Up to 30 businesses are also being given the opportunity to borrow a 360 video camera for 2 weeks to build skills after the workshops.

The deadline for applications in Oban is Monday, 17 October, and for Lerwick it’s Monday, 21 November. Interested parties need to complete an application outlining why their business should be chosen, what they would like to capture on 360 video and how this would help them promote their business, area or community.

The closing date has now passed for the Inverness area – and the successful firms will be revealed soon.

April Conroy, #hellodigital project manager with HIE, said: “We are delighted that this project has attracted applications from great businesses across the Highlands and Islands and are looking forward to seeing the finished film projects of our shortlisted candidates.

“The finalists will get to borrow either the Samsung Gear 360 or the Ricoh Theta S camera, depending on what will best suit their individual project goals. The shoot locations will be Inverness and the Cairngorms National Park.

“The aim of these seminars and workshops is to give businesses the knowledge and tools required to capture engaging 360 videos that can be used to promote their services or products. #hellodigital is all about bringing individuals, businesses, communities and experts together to explore new ideas and innovations. These upcoming workshops will provide a great opportunity to give the region’s businesses an insight into what 360 video technology can do for them.”
