Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) invites you to attend a FREE 1 day introductory level workshop 'Selling Online Internationally’ to help you learn how to increase international sales through your website.

This interactive workshop will help you understand what really matters when trading online internationally, giving practical advice on what to do and examples of best practice, as well as the pitfalls to avoid.

Your business should already have a website and you should want to develop your site to sell pro-actively to international customers. The workshop will help you write a short action plan for your business to grow your international online sales.

*This course is not intended for tourism businesses. If you are a tourism business you should refer to your local Destination Management Organisation who will be organising tourism specific digital workshops on behalf of HIE across a number of subjects, including international digital tourism.

What you will learn:

  • Understand the key opportunities and challenges you face in developing / increasing online international sales
  • Develop a web strategy to grow your international business
  • Develop your website so it is more focussed on international customers
  • Improve the profile of your business internationally
  • Address language considerations and learn how to localise your website
  • Put together a personalised digital international action plan to kick start your site development
  • Develop an international pricing strategy, taking into account currencies and delivery charges
  • Understand the basics of VAT and tariffs in international online sales
  • Understand payment methods in different countries and help ensure you get paid
  • Consider legal requirements and develop international terms and conditions
  • Consider practical issues such as providing customer service to overseas customers

The workshop will be delivered by Julian Lawson Hill, a consultant with 20 years’ experience of helping Scottish companies to export. Julian’s experience includes delivering export training on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Development International, as well as working an International Trade Advisor, advising companies on international online selling and how to grow their businesses in international markets.

This workshop is delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Development International, with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Please note the course is free of charge, however, as it is a form of State Aid, it could count towards your overall De Minimis allowance.  Each company is allowed a total of 200,000 Euros in de minimis aid over a 3 year period.
