Introduction to Preparing to Export - Jewellery

Location: Kirkwall, Orkney

Highlands and Islands Enterprise, in partnership with Emergents and Scottish Development International, are running an ‘Introduction to Preparing to export Jewellery’ workshop on Orkney on the 18th and 19th March 2015.

This FREE two day programme is fully funded by Smart Exporter and is designed specifically for creative industries jewellery businesses in the Highlands & Islands that are thinking about exporting for the first time or are in the very early stages of exporting.

Why export? Learn the importance of export planning and what to include in your export plan.

  •  Market analysis and planning
  •  Importance of conducting market research
  •  How to research international markets
  •  Sources of advice and information
  •  Target market selection

Market Entry:

Once you have selected key target markets, what is the best approach to market entry for your company?

  • Routes to market: Selling direct to consumer including role of international ecommerce, and selling    via trade partners (e.g. retailer, agents, distributors, licencing, strategic partnerships)
  • International marketing and brand promotion
  • Market visits including role of exhibitions and trade shows

International finance, contracts and logistics:

Learn more about the practical aspects of exporting. In addition to hearing first-hand from a guest speaker about their export experiences, you’ll and complete your own export plan with 1-2-1 support and benefit from insight on:

  • Basic legal issues including protecting your intellectual property
  • Export pricing
  • Budgeting and costing
  • Agency, distribution and partnership agreements
  • VAT, customs duties, tariffs and international marking requirements (including hallmarking and  
    fineness standards for gold, silver and platinum jewellery)
  •  Currency and getting paid
  •  Incoterms
  •  Contracts and international terms and conditions
  •  Logistics and transportation including insurance
     

(Note: Companies must attend both days, maximum of two individuals per company.)

This event is organised as part of Smart Exporter, an international trade skills programme designed to increase skills and knowledge amongst Scottish businesses. This initiative is delivered in the Highlands and Islands by Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE) in partnership with Scottish Development International (SDI) with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
Please note that the course is free of charge, but as it is a form of State Aid on attendance it will count towards your overall De Minimis allowance.
