New to developing your international tourism markets?

Wild Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise are hosting an introductory workshop designed specifically for wildlife and adventure tourism businesses across Scotland on the 14 and 21 January 2015 in Fort William.

Companies are expected to attend both dates.

This free two day workshop, funded through Smart Exporter, is aimed at businesses which are at the very early stages of developing or growing their international tourism markets.

The workshop covers the key areas you need to consider when developing your international tourism markets, including market analysis, routes to markets including working effectively with the travel trade, international marketing and social media. You will also develop your own international action plan.

You will learn about market analysis including:

  • Planning for international tourism markets
  • Understanding our international visitors
  • Effective market research

You will also learn about the routes to market including:

  • Choosing your route to market
  • The role of collaboration
  • Exhibitions for wildlife and adventure tourism businesses
  • Working with the travel trade.

Wednesday 21 January 2015

On the 2nd workshop day, you will learn about international inbound marketing including:

  • The importance of inbound marketing
  • Using social media effectively to reach your international visitors

You will also be given an overview of the different support available, including:

  • Tourism Intelligence Scotland
  • Scottish Development International and UKTI
  • Wild Scotland
  • VisitScotland
  • VisitBritain

This event is organised as part of Smart Exporter, an international trade skills programme designed to increase skills and knowledge amongst Scottish businesses. This initiative is delivered in the Highlands and Islands by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) in partnership with Scottish Development International (SDI) with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Please note that the course is free of charge, but as it is a form of State Aid on attendance it will count towards your overall De Minimis allowance.
