The morning focuses on internationalisation, where local business support organisations are coming together as part of an ongoing initiative to help local businesses find out about, and harness, the support available to do business overseas. The afternoon is designed to stimulate your business concentrating on innovation and giving you an overview of the support available to innovate your business.

Business breakfast: Building sustainable growth in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland
Come and join us for breakfast while Alastair Nicolson takes a brief look at the important contribution international trade and innovation make to creating jobs and wealth in a modern economy. The presentation looks at the role HIE plays in developing the economy, the medium term outcomes that will indicate success and explores the impact that encouraging more businesses to trade overseas and to engage in innovative activity can have on their long-term profitability and the corresponding wider, positive, impact these actions can have on the regional / national economy.
9.00 -10.00am Enterprise Europe Network - Internationalisation: Reaching Customers Overseas
Enterprise Europe Network and Business Gateway services, the Inverness Chamber of Commerce, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Scottish Development International are coming together to help local businesses find out about, and harness, the support available to do business overseas. This session is in response to two recent business surveys: the Scottish Chambers of Commerce’s survey of businesses, and the Bank of Scotland’s survey of the Food and Drink sector. Both studies found that many businesses have ambitions to grow internationally (40% and 58% of respondents, respectively), but feel they are hampered by a lack of time, resources, funding, and market access.

10.15-11.00am Ewan Ramsay - International strategy
This highly practical workshop is aimed both at companies considering new overseas markets as part of their business development plans, as well as organisations that have recently begun to export products or services. One of the key challenges when starting to exporting is to look at it from a strategic perspective and this workshop will provide each participant with some highly relevant tools and knowledge to start shaping their strategic export plan.
11.00 – 11.30am Ewan Ramsay - International Finance, Contracts and Logistics
This workshop provides a detailed, yet practical insight into some of the key elements of International trade. Ensuring relationships with customers, agents, distributors, freight forwarders and others within your supply chain are all securely in place is of paramount importance. This workshop will provide some real life case studies and practical examples, to provide a framework for each participant with which to export with confidence. This workshop is relevant to exporters no matter how much knowledge or experience they have of export markets.
11.45-12.15pm David Howie, Regional Lead Practitioner, SMAS- SMAS support to help companies get export ready
This session will set out the key areas a manufacturing company should consider when taking those first steps to export or improve export performance.
