The workshop offers invaluable tools, expertise and insights to help develop export capabilities and grow business.


Highlands and Islands Enterprise, in partnership with Scottish Development International, is running a FREE two day workshop on how to successfully prepare your business to trade overseas. Companies must attend both days.

Who's it for?

This introductory programme is targeted at Highlands and Islands companies of all sectors that are thinking about exporting for the first time, or are in the very early stages of exporting and wish to develop their export capabilities to grow their business.

Key areas covered:

  • Market Analysis: Why export? Learn the importance of export planning and what to include in your export plan.
  • Market Entry: Once you have selected key target markets, what is the best approach to market entry for your company?
  • International finance, contracts and logistics: Learn more about the practical aspects of exporting. Such as basic legal issues including protecting your intellectual property, as well as putting the right contact in place to get paid.
  • Export Plan: companies will be guided through the production of an export plan.

Preparing to Export is run by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, in partnership with Scottish Development International. The course is free of charge, but because it’s a form of EU State Aid, it counts towards your overall De Minimis Aid allowance. Each company is allowed a total of €200,000 in De Minimis Aid over a 3-year period (with a lower limit for fisheries and some other categories).
