Investment Readiness Workshop

02 September 2014

When: Tuesday 2 September 2014

Where: Kirkwall & St Ola Town Hall & Community Centre

Workshop overview

Has your organisation considered taking out a loan? What will this mean to your business? What challenges will this raise?

  • What opportunities will arise from being in control of your own finances?
  • What does all that finance jargon actually mean?
  • How do I convince my trustees?

The thought of taking on loan finance can be daunting, raising an endless number of questions. However, in an even changing economic climate, it can be a necessity.

However, in an ever changing economic climate, there is a real need to be able to make informed decisions about the different funding opportunities that are available, including taking out a loan.

At Social Investment Scotland, being a social enterprise and a charity ourselves, we understand the concern of third sector organisations when it comes to raising finance. We therefore work with organisations to support their understanding so that they are able to make fully informed decisions which best suit their mission and objectives.

We have teamed up with Highlands and Islands Enterprise to hold a workshop in Orkney on  Tuesday 2 September 2014.

The workshop will provide:

  • a space for reflection to overcome real or perceived barriers relating to moving away from grant dependency to a mix of financial income
  • the chance to explore any ingrained and strongly held beliefs that may be hindering your ability to look proactively at taking on loan finance.
  • an overview of investment finance
  • a conduit for one to one business and financial support if required by participants

Who should attend

The workshop is aimed at third sector organisations who are already trading, but are looking to expand current operations, need bridging facilities, looking to increase working capital or wanting to purchase their own asset, need to convince trustees about social investment.

Workshop objective

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • have a better understanding of Social Investment
  • be able to articulate the business case for Social Investment
