Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) exist to facilitate partnerships between businesses and academic institutions.
Companies typically use Knowledge Transfer Partnerships to help them:
- Develop new products or improve existing ones.
- Increase efficiency through improved business processes.
- Enter new markets.
- Increase the company's skill base.
The Government assist KTPs by providing the framework and resources to support business to academic collaborations.
How it works
The partnership will develop a programme focused on meeting the needs or solving a problem through the use of technology.
Knowledge is transferred via a recent graduate, who will have mentoring from an academic expert, working within the business.
Financial support is available as a grant, which can cover up to 67% of the programme costs.
To qualify for KTP, a Programme must:
- have clear deliverables;
- be at least 18 months work;
- lead to an increase in profits.
Both large and small businesses are eligible. Currently around 80% of KTP’s are operating Programmes involving Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s).
