Lorne MacLeod, Chair HICEC

Lorne MacLeod , Chair, a chartered accountant, was formerly director of Strengthening Communities at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and chief executive of Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise. He is a director of a retail and distribution company based on Skye, and a director of the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust which was formed to take forward the community buyout of the island in 2002. He is also a director of Gigha Renewable Energy Limited, the country's first grid-connected community-owned windfarm.

Tor Justad, Vice Chair  HICEC Tor Justad , Vice-Chair, has worked with many rural communities to assist them in controlling local economic development. He has dual Norwegian/British nationality but has lived in Scotland since 1972. He has worked in the public, private, voluntary and co-operative/social economy sectors, including managing the Community Enterprise Support Unit (Central Region) Ltd and as a social economy and social auditing adviser in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.  Since 2000 he has worked as a community affairs officer for the Co-operative Group.
Nicholas Gubbins, Chief Executive HICEC Nicholas Gubbins , Chief Executive, was formally head of Community Regeneration at Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Prior to that, he worked for Scottish Natural Heritage in a number of locations in Scotland. He has managed a wide range of community development and environmental projects and programmes and was responsible for the establishment and direction of HIE's community energy unit, the predecessor to HICEC.
Ian Cartwright, Director HICEC Ian Cartwright , Director, has an electrical and electronic engineering background working abroad in the oil exploration business, following which he returned to the Highlands to work in the family business JS Cartwright & Co. He has been involved in renewable generation for approximately 20 years, initially in hydro but also in wind, wave and more recently tidal projects. He also competes annually in the Highland Cross coast-to-coast charity duathlon.
Alan Hobbett, Director HICEC Alan Hobbett , Director, career spans social housing management, development and research, alongside community-led regeneration and the development of social enterprises. Before joining the Dunfermline Building Society as business development manager - social housing, Alan worked with the islanders of Gigha in the regeneration of their community-owned island and the creation of the UK's first grid-connected, community-owned windfarm. He remains a director of Gigha Renewable Energy Limited, the subsidiary company established by the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust to develop and manage the island's windfarm.
Ian Ross, Director HICEC Ian Ross , Director,  is the Highland councillor for Golspie and Rogart and is the chair of the council's sustainable development select sommittee. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and lectures on forestry policy and sustainability issues. He chairs the Forestry Commission for Scotland's 'Forestry for People' advisory panel and is also the chair of the Highland Forestry Forum. He is a member of the north regional board of SEPA.
John Shedden, Director, HICEC John Shedden , Director, is a founding partner of Lumis, an energy industry consulting firm based in Glasgow. Prior to founding Lumis, John worked for 12 years in a variety of senior posts withing the electricity industry. Most recently he was head of British Energy's renewables subsidiary and a director of Lewis Wind Power Ltd, Offshore Wind Power Ltd and British Energy Renewables Ltd. He is currently a member of the grid and regulation sub-group of the Scottish Renewables Forum.
