Environment and community, Heritage : Postcards from Port Lockroy - talk
Open.. on Wednesday from 07/05/2008 to 07/05/2008
Starts: 19.30
Description: Postcards from Port Lockroy: Five Months as Assistant Post-Mistress and Penguin Monitor on a small Antarctic Island. Artist bookbinder Rachel Hazell moved a long way from 'creating' to work for United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust. Sharing a small room with two other people, original 1950's fittings, no electricity or running water, she welcomed nearly 18,000 visitors, hand franked a lot of stamps (80,000)and continued a penguin monitoring project started in 1996.

There will be lots of pictures of penguins and icebergs, a bit of history (including whaling)and plentiful opportunity for questions.
