Doing your bit for tourism growth

Doing your bit for tourism growth
20 May 2008

Tourism Framework for Change, the tourism industry’s blueprint for the future, has set a challenge to grow Scottish tourism by 50 per cent. The target date is 2015, but how can individual tourism businesses develop to help meet this ambition?

This is the central question being examined next month at the latest open meeting being planned by the Scottish Tourism Forum. Sponsored by The Caravan Club, Raising the bar and jumping higher: Increasing tourism businesses' profit potential will discuss how tourism business can develop in the current climate. The event, being held at Perth Racecourse, will stress the growing importance of examining how to maximise potential yield from a business and develop the offer to secure growth for the future.

Key note speaker will be Tavish Scott MSP, Convener of the Energy, Enterprise and Tourism Committee. As the enquiry into tourism draws to a close he will be outlining his views on the potential for tourism in Scotland.

Tourism Framework for Change (TFFC) is now moving into its next phase and the open meeting will hear how it will focus on business needs, unlocking tourism potential through joint partnerships and how to get involved.

Meanwhile, Gordon Bell, The Retailer, will be demonstrating ways to increase profit potential within business through selling techniques and recognition of opportunities. And Shirley Spears, The Three Chimneys, will present a case study on how she has built a successful business in Skye, inspiring visitors both to her business and the local area.
