Innes House prepares for Moray Food Producers Fayre
23 April 2008

A selection of the best food and drink produce in Moray will be showcased to industry representatives on Wednesday April 30 between 2pm and 5.30pm at Innes House, Elgin at the Moray Food Producer's Fayre.

The fayre will provide Moray food producers and suppliers with an opportunity to exhibit their products to key members of the local hospitality industry from Moray, Grampian, Speyside and Inverness-shire.

Top Scottish chef Wendy Barrie has agreed to top the bill and has signed up to demonstrate the quality and versatility of Moray ingredients.

The event is being organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to encourage hotels, restaurants, B&Bs and cafes to take advantage of Moray's food and drink and to make it available to visitors to the area and residents alike.

Stands containing a selection of succulent meats, chocolates, cheese, ice-cream, eggs, breads, cakes, pies, vegetables, and whisky will fill the east wing dining room at Innes House.

There will be an opportunity to taste some of the produce while representatives from the exhibiting businesses explain how their products have been created, reared or grown.

The food fayre also coincides with the launch of the Moray Dining Club which is due to start at 7pm at Innes House. This will showcase the quality of food available in Moray, and provide an opportunity for business - to - business networking within the food tourism sector.

Stephanie O'Connell, development officer at HIE, said: "By bringing together local food producers, hospitality businesses and a well-known chef, we can celebrate and emphasise the connection between the local producers and the food we eat. We know that the food in our region is exceptional and food tourism is important in attracting and retaining visitors to the area. We are determined to take food and tourism to a wider audience by bringing together the businesses involved in these sectors.

"The fayre will give the kind of promotion that locally produced food and drink from Moray really deserves. We have a wealth of producers and suppliers and all of these talented and productive businesses are responsible for the highest quality products."

Exhibiting businesses are: Gordon and MacPhail; MacBeths; Allarburn Farm Shop; The Ice Cream Cabin; Highland Country Foods; Macleans Highland Bakery; Swansons; Wester Lawrenceton Farm; Lossie Seafoods; Olive Tree of Elgin; and Glenfarclas Distillery.
