First there were Scotland’s best cafes. Now, watch out for Scotland’s best bars.
VisitScotland will soon be raising its glass to the best Scottish pubs, bars and inns, with a new quality initiative. The scheme will seek to promote class-leading establishments of all types to visitors.
To gain entry, bars will need to demonstrate ambience, sociability and good quality service, as well as a range of superior products. Those establishments fitting the criteria will be entitled to display the Scotland’s Best Bars logo, demonstrating to visitors that beyond the threshold lies an assured level of service and experience. Not to mention the opportunity to sample Scottish and other cask ales, well-served regional ales and lagers, and/or fine wines and continental and other imported beers, craft ciders and more.
It almost goes without saying that Uisge Beatha, the water of life, will also feature heavily within the remit of the scheme. A large proportion of bars will be offering a fine range of malt whiskies to novice and connoisseur alike.
Visitors will also be able to expect friendly, efficient service and, in many places, first class food as well.
According to VisitScotland, “The scheme will signpost the country’s ‘best’ bars in all their remarkable diversity – from those offering rustic charm to historic city pubs, busy and characterful ‘locals’ and elegant style bars.”
The ‘Scotland’s Best Bars’ initiative has been developed by VisitScotland after discussion with other leading bodies including the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), Scottish Licensed Trade Association (SLTA), Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Alcohol Focus Scotland and The Scottish Licensed Trade News (SLTN).
