The closing date for industry input into a major new study of Gaelic in the workplace is today (Monday). The online questionnaire has now been switched off and the hard work will now commence on interpreting the results.
The study, jointly funded by Careers Scotland, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, will take stock of how many employees are in posts where Gaelic is a desirable or essential skill and gauge the likely level of future demand for such posts.
Tourism, of course, is one area of the economy where the ability to speak Gaelic is increasingly seen as an asset when hiring employees. With Gaelic and cultural tourism set to become a significant market for the Highlands and Islands, it is to be hoped this new study will help shed light on the intrinsic value of Gaelic in the local economy at present and in the future.
More than 250 organisations were invited to complete the questionnaire.
