New DVD promotes Shetland

A new DVD and CD promoting Shetland and all there is to see and do in the islands has been produced by VisitShetland. Targeting potential visitors to Shetland, the free DVD is available in French, German, Norwegian, Danish, Italian and Spanish, and is available in the Tourist Information Centre in Lerwick.

Marketing Executive for VisitShetland, Misa Hay explains: “We know that people interested in visiting Shetland increasingly tend to download our online brochure as opposed to ordering a printed version. This brand new DVD provides comprehensive, up to the minute information – including images and video clips - on the range of visitor attractions and activities available throughout Shetland and highlights the islands’ Tourist Information Centres and Neighbourhood Information Points.

“It also directs people to the VisitShetland website, www.visitshetland.com, where they can access all the standard information as well as our web cams, tourist radio, image gallery and competitions.”

The DVD is packaged with a promotional booklet which includes a map of Shetland. As a key pre-arrival marketing and holiday planning tool, the long term aim is for the DVD to gradually replace the printed brochure.

Misa continues: “We’ve had 30,000 of the first edition produced, for distribution throughout tourism-related outlets in Shetland, and we’re also going to be promoting the DVD at exhibitions in 2008, including Destinations London, Destinations Birmingham and the London Boat Show.”

There are also plans to invite local businesses and organisations to advertise in the DVD, from a standard entry to audio or video ads, as Misa explains. “Space for two discs in the enclosure will allow us to offer this material to third parties, who will be able to insert a specific CD/DVD for their own trade shows and events if required.”
