Sun comes out for UK startups
07 December 2007

Global network computing company, Sun has announced that it is rolling out its discount kit scheme, Startup Essentials in the UK.

On selected lines, Startup Essentials discounts can be as high as 60 per cent. The offers are, according to Sun, designed to encourage the establishment and growth of small start up businesses. Eligible startups admitted to Startup Essentials can purchase a range of discounted Sun products and services, including the award-winning Sun Fire x64 servers and Sun Fire servers with CoolThreads technology.

Members can also work with Sun worldwide hosting partners Layered Technologies and NaviSite, plus regional hosting partner NTT Europe Online, to rent discounted Web hosting infrastructure based on Sun technologies. In addition to offering products and services to eligible UK startup companies, Sun is also offering free technical advice via email and access to free software, such as Apache, MySQL and Perl (AMP), Ruby on Rails all optimised to run on the open source Solaris OS.

Launched a year ago in the US, Startup Essentials has been expanded into India and China, and now the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Around 1300 companies have joined so far and come from a wide spectrum of industry, not just technology firms.
