Broadband connection speeds are a major concern of Business Transformation’s users, according to the site stats, so a new web site that measures latency (time delay) will certainly be of interest.
broadbandbenchmark.com, developed by Aspire Softech, enables internet users to test the latency (time delay) of their internet connection to selected major destinations for free. Latency is an increasingly important measure of quality for many applications including video conferencing, 3D virtual worlds and gaming. Broadbandbenchmark.com offers a simple way of comparing the latency that users experience from their ISP with latency offered by other local ISPs to a wide selection of popular internet destinations.
This site works by running a test on the connection between a user’s PC and certain selected sites in a number of categories. Anonymous test results are stored, but no personal information or IP addresses, in order for the site to produce a measure of the quality of the connection compared to the connection achieved by other users in the same country. The site uses an ActiveX application (which at present will only run on Internet Explorer) using a certificate provided by Thawte.
Aspire Softech say their goal is to build up a picture of the quality of network connectivity offered by different internet service providers which they believe will be valuable to the ISPs and to website owners who want to ensure they have good connectivity to their customers.
