Just when you though you’d got your head round your new mobile phone, along comes an EQO (echo).
EQO is a free, easy to use download for your existing mobile phone that enables voice calls anywhere in the world for rates as low as 1.2p/minute. And with EQO there’s also cheap text messages and free access to instant messaging services like MSN, AIM, Yahoo!, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber.
It doesn’t require a new phone contract or card either. When installed on your mobile, EQO works seamlessly in the background along with the existing phone plan (local minutes and a bit of data) to place calls and messages at “some of the lowest rates in the world”. Calls and texts to other EQO users are free.
To get it, register at eqo.com. They then send you a SMS message with a link that activates your phone’s browser to download and install the necessary software. Old house bricks and lower end phones are not compatible as the service requires a mobile that has internet access.
