Foodkit – what every kitchen needs?

Foodkit – what every kitchen needs?

Using local produce has been for a long time the secret of success for Scotland’s top restaurants. Now, sourcing suppliers of quality local foodstuffs has become a whole lot easier thanks to foodtourismscotland’s new Foodkit web site.

And if the site reviews are anything to go by it will soon be as essential a piece of kitchen kit as a pro set of carving knifes.

A major feature of the site is the ‘Source your local supplier’ tool, a mini search engine of suppliers offering quality local produce within a specific geographic area. In addition, the site contains a wealth of information, from recipes to food allergies, and comprehensive guidance on how to purchase fresh food, supply planning and making the most of farmers’ markets.

Shirley Spear, of the multi-award winning Three Chimneys in Skye, is one of a number of leading restaurateurs to back Foodkit.

She states: “If you serve food to customers this Foodkit is for you! The Tourism Foodkit website is a brilliant kitchen tool for professionals to have on hand. Sourcing fresh ingredients locally and finding distribution channels that work to the advantage of everyone involved has been one of the hardest aspects the industry has had to deal with in the past. Finding like-minded people to deal with who appreciate what each person is trying to achieve for the customer, creates confidence and solves problems. Working together for the good of the customer brings producers, retailers, chefs and end-users closer together for the good of the whole industry. Sharing interests and having greater knowledge and understanding brings untold advantages.”
