| Stem cell expert delivers lunch time talk in Inverness | |
| 11 September 2007 Internationally renowned expert Dr Alan Colman will deliver a lunchtime talk at the Centre for Health Science on Friday 14 September. Dr Colman's most recognised contribution is working in conjunction with the Scotland based research team to clone Dolly the Sheep in 1997. Sponsored by the Scottish Stem Cell Network, the talk will focus on what Dolly the sheep has done for biomedical science, 10 years on. The event will highlight the latest advances in stem cell therapies particularly for treating cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Dr Colman is currently the chief executive officer of ES Cell International (ESI), Singapore which provides products and technologies derived from human embryonic stem cells. He said: "I think we have seen in the past few years how much the industry and the public expects from this science. It is exciting for me to be leading the search for this relatively new approach to treating the two of the most common diseases in the world today: cardiovascular disease and diabetes." The Centre for Health Science is a high quality, purpose built facility designed to increase activity in education, training, research, business incubation and commercialisation within the public and private healthcare sector. The project is being driven by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) together with a number of other partners. Those who are interested in attending the lunch-time talk should contact the Centre for Health Science on 01463 255000 or the Scottish Stem Cell Network on 0131 527 3442. | |
