By now most of us have heard of Bebo, MySpace and Facebook, so perhaps it’s no real surprise that a new social networking site is setting out to do the same for businesses.

Word of Mouse (www.wordofmousenetwork.com) has gone live with a beta version of its web-based platform, enabling companies all over the UK to sign up and help shape the online business community. According to the father and son team behind Word of Mouse, the site is designed to bring the power and benefits of social networking to the business community and be a fresh new way to generate business leads and referrals.

Co-founder of Word of Mouse, Andy Lopata explains: “We have taken the concept of networking over a business breakfast and moved it online. Because it’s online we expect Word of Mouse to be a valuable and convenient option for many business people who can't commit to regular breakfast meetings.”

Harvey Lopata adds: “Word of Mouse brings the power of the web to local businesses by helping build strong contact networking. By directly introducing business people to others within their local areas, and within their peer groups, we offer supportive, intimate and high value-added online business networking.”

Users pay a £60 registration fee (£30 during public beta) to join the network, and a monthly subscription of £17 per month thereafter.
