Skype out of the box

Skype out of the box

Voice over IP company, Skype has signed a deal to have their internet communications software pre-installed on all new Toshiba notebook computers.

Together with built-in web cams and microphones, internet voice calls and video conferences can be made out of the box with the new Toshiba hardware. The notebooks are now on sale in the US but not available elsewhere quite yet. But they are certainly worth bearing in mind if you are in the market for a new laptop in the coming months.

Meanwhile, on a less positive note, Skype hasn’t had its troubles to seek lately. Last week there was a two-day interruption to service. Millions of Skype users were unable to log in and make calls after a major glitch in the wake of a Microsoft Update patch being applied to servers. Skype pinpointed high traffic volumes on their network and other factors during server reboots as a primary cause of the outage rather than the software update.
