Conference: Mental health in the workplace

2007 is the European Year for Equal Opportunities for All and Scottish Enterprise, working in partnership with the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) is hosting an event, with the support of the Scottish Executive, on Tuesday, 23rd October at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow between 10.00am and 4.00pm to highlight the issue of mental health and wellbeing in the work place.

The event will be chaired by TV presenter Trisha Goddard who has a strong interest in mental health issues (she is a patron of MIND in Norwich).

A recent SAMH report (2006) highlighted the costs to the Scottish economy of mental illness and the need to work in prevention and treatment.

The event in Glasgow will address issues such as stress and mental health, work-based detection and prevention strategies, challenging discrimination and accommodating mental health in the workplace. The event will highlight global best practice drawing upon work based case studies.

The expected audience for the event will be business owners, managers, HR practioners and training managers from the private, public and voluntary sectors in Scotland.

Other key attendees will be mental health support groups and community groups. It is hoped that some one hundred and fifty delegates will attend. Speakers and work shop leaders will come from Corporate Scotland.
