02 August 2007New online magazine launchedA multi-million pound range of strategic development projects which are building sustainable growth throughout the Highlands and Islands features in a new magazine published online by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). ‘HIE network 2007’ tells the story of a region which is currently turning in an impressive economic performance, and at the same time facing up to some serious challenges. Chair of HIE William Roe writes in the introduction: “Changes are taking place in the Highlands and Islands. Organisations and businesses in the area’s public, private and social sectors are creating new opportunities which are transforming the fortunes of a once-struggling economy. Effective partnerships are working hard to build sustainable growth across all parts of this large, sparsely populated area.” Themes which are identified as helping to lead that transformation include developments in life sciences, communications technology and renewable energy, while UHI, the Centre for Health Science, the Moray 2020 regeneration partnership, South Uist Estate, Eden Court Theatre and Highland 2007 are among the projects featured in the 24-page magazine. In a wide-ranging interview, HIE chief executive Sandy Cumming offers his views on the successes and setbacks which the enterprise agency faced over the past year. ‘HIE network 2007’ can be read online at http://www.hie.co.uk/hie-network-2007-review.html | |
