Identifying community training needs

Identifying community training needs
25 May 2007

A new online tool was launched on 21 May 2007 to help Highlands and Islands community groups identify their training needs. This unique tool ensures that community groups across the region get connected to the right training opportunities.

The tool is easy to use: all a group has to do is complete a questionnaire online at www.hiccap.org.uk

They will then be instantly presented with an action plan of key areas specific to their development needs.

The action plan can be used to access appropriate training to strengthen the group’s effectiveness. Groups that participate before 28 September have the chance to win funding between £100 and £200 towards training - and significant discounts with some of the region’s foremost training providers such as the Social Enterprise Academy and the Highland Body Language Training Consultancy in a prize draw.

The tool forms part of an important survey of the voluntary sector conducted by Highlands and Islands Community Capacity Partnership (HICCaP).

With more than 8,000 community groups operating in the Highlands and Islands, up-to-date knowledge of training needs is vital to develop appropriate training provision.

Anne Macdonald of HIE's strengthening communities group said: “As one of the main funders of HICCaP we support this training needs analysis as a method of ensuring that accessible and affordable training is available to community groups. Outcomes of this important piece of work will contribute towards a significant increase in the capacity and long term sustainability of voluntary and community groups in the Highlands and Islands.”
