EDAS (Economic Development Association Scotland) annual conference 2007

Scotland in a global market: Economy - People - Place - Connectivity

5 June 2007, West Park conference centre, Dundee.

Where should the Scottish economy be trying to position itself in an increasingly global market place?

What needs to happen in Scotland in order to achieve this aspiration?

Key issues to be addressed at this year's annual conference by EDAS Chairman and one of Scotland's leading economic development experts, Professor Alan McGregor and key speaker, Hugh Aitken, Vice President Worldwide Customer Fulfillment, Sun Microsystems.

A recognised platform for policy and practice debate and influence in Scotland, the refreshed conference is back this June, to deliver a practical, interactive, forward-thinking and inspirational approach to improving your knowledge and contact network.

Crucially, your views will contribute to EDAS's new Annual Outcomes Report to be delivered to key policy and decision makers following the conference.

With the support of headline sponsors Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise and in partnership with Blake Stevenson, Experian and Gen Consulting, this year's conference aims to embrace and act upon your views in addressing our country's position in a global market.

In sync with the title theme, policy and practice sessions will focus on:

  • 1. The Economy: 'Green Growth' Are Scottish organisations positioned to take advantage of the increased interest in the environment?
  • 2. People: 'Impact of Immigration' With the broadening of the EU,immigrant numbers continue to rise in Scotland. What are the positive and negative impacts we need to address?
  • 3. Place: 'Regeneration Vs Growth – Does Place Matter? Why?' Is it more important, to invest public spend on the regeneration and reversal of declining areas or should we be investing in existing areas of high growth and return.
  • 4. Connectivity: 'The Connectivity Challenge: Maximising Scotland’s Opportunities in a Global Economy' Positioning ourselves to maximise on international opportunities.

Design your own conference sessions! New this year, EDAS will run the successful round table discussions but invite you to suggest the topics when you book up. Tell them what you want to discuss and they'll make it happen!
