Chief executive of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Sandy Cumming was in Invergordon today (Tuesday 20 March) to officially open the local enterprise company's new careers, advice, guidance and information centre.

The HIE Inverness and East Highland office on the High Street in Invergordon has been refurbished so that, as well as being a point of advice and support for businesses and social enterprises, it provides access to a full range of career advice services. These include a library and computers as well as private meeting areas so that people of all ages can also consult professional advisers for guidance in their career planning.

Speaking at the official opening Sandy Cumming said: "Today's launch marks an exciting day for HIE Inverness and East Highland, and I am delighted to be part of the occasion by opening the new resource centre. This move ensures that a complete range of HIE network services are now available under one roof to match customers' needs as effectively and efficiently as possible.  By integrating careers services within the enterprise network, HIE is striving to deliver a fully unified service which can benefit businesses, communities and individuals across the Highlands and Islands."

Sheila Swinton, head of careers in Invergordon, said: "The opening of this redesigned office provides an integrated advice, information and guidance centre with improved disabled access. We are delighted to be working as one agency for the benefit of everybody living and working, or looking to work, in the HIE Inverness and East Highland area."

Advisers are available in the Invergordon office for those at the start of their working life and in need of some guidance, or who are in work or want to change role, or might be thinking of returning to work after a break.  Financial help may also be available to assist people to improve their skills.

The service caters for people considering self-employment too. A full range of advice is available for those who are thinking of starting their own business.
