Rassay says YES in principle to further work on community takeover of Raasay House
30 January 2007

The result of the first community ballot on the proposed community takeover of Raasay House has been a majority 'Yes' vote with 69 voting 'Yes' and 57 voting 'No'.

This means that further work can now be undertaken to take the project forward for the benefit of the whole Raasay community and to set down the precise terms and conditions on which it would happen, with regard to the house, the policies, and the other pieces of land to be transferred.

Members of the current company have agreed together with Raasay residents for the new company - Raasay House Community Company (RHCC) to be community led, in which members of the Board will be elected by the people of Raasay.

Voting forms were sent out to all people on the Raasay electoral roll, for this preliminary vote. This vote has decided, in principle only, that the project is to proceed and allow the new board to negotiate the details of the project with all the interested parties and then go back to the community with all the information on what has been decided. A second vote would then take place once the community knows exactly what is at stake and seek their support for the project to proceed to the action phase.
