New pest control business in Moray
12 December 2006

A Cullen man who has worked in the pest control service for more than 25 years is set to help businesses and residents in the area after starting his own business.

Dave Archer took advantage of a gap in the market when his previous employer moved out of the area to concentrate on business in the south of England.

Trading under the name, DKA Environmental Pest Control and Hygiene Services, Dave deals with control of all types of pests from rodents, ants and cluster flies to cockroaches, wasps and the occasional fox.

From domestic residents to commercial businesses and the public sector, his business is also a licensed carrier of controlled waste and sanitary waste collection which benefits premises such as hotels and restaurants.

Dave said:  "DKA Environmental has won many new contracts this year and since winter has arrived I have been busier than ever as this is the time of year that a variety of small animals and insects seek refuge in our homes and places of work.  The support I have received from HIE Moray has been essential in getting the business up and running in as short a time as possible."

Having previously worked in the local authority, Dave is familiar to the penalties that commercial premises can incur and the potential lost business that can result if hygiene levels are allowed to slip.

Keira Simpson from HIE Moray said:  "Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and DKA Environmental is providing an essential service to other local enterprises.  Taking the first steps towards self employment can seem like a daunting process, but with help and advice just a phone call away, HIE Moray can help make starting a business a reality when the right opportunities arise."
