| Highlands bands rush to Russia | |
| 12 October 2006 Four Highland bands head out to Russia tomorrow (Thursday, October 12) to take part in a two day rock festival in Moscow. Modelled on the GoHi festivals that were initiated in the North of Scotland, Russian organisers have liaised with Highlands and Islands Enterprise and GoHi Events to prepare for this first performance and networking event in their capital. Selected to perform are bands Crash My Model Car; The Boy That Trapped the Sun (Colin Macleod), both from Stornoway; the Jyrojets from Inverness and Stereoglo from Skye. Iain Hamilton, HIE's creative industries manager, said: "The GoHi model is proving very successful, with Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, the Basque region and now Russia borrowing Highland expertise to put on their own events. As their popularity grows, so does their usefulness as they allow us all to meet, exchange ideas, provide international audiences for our music and help create opportunities for each other." As well as performing at the nightclub Vermel, the bands' music will be broadcast on Silver Rain - a radio station that transmits right across Russia. The musicians will be joined by others involved in the Highland music industry. | |
