| LearningWorks website puts companies on road to success | |
| 19 September 2006 LearningWorks, the Highlands and Islands Enterprise website dedicated to online training and learning, has been upgraded to become sleeker and quicker. The move will keep pace with the huge demand it is experiencing from companies within the region who want to access the latest training information. Launched just over a year and a half ago, LearningWorks' popularity has grown rapidly, with more than 17,000 visits each month. With a clear focus on the Highlands and Islands, the site provides a single access point to the latest opportunities to improve skills and means that no matter where a company is located, it can help them put in place more effective training strategies. The site has been developed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and many businesses in the region are tapping into the new resource and benefiting from implementing more focussed training programmes. Graham Young, LearningWorks manager at HIE, said: "It's great news that the site is such a success, and we aim to continue to develop it to ensure that it provides a leading edge resource which helps business in the region to become more competitive and profitable. "However, it's not only companies who are using the site. Individuals are also logging on to get the latest information on learning and skills developments. Whether it's someone who wants to improve their chances of gaining work, upgrade skills in an existing job or employers who want to give their workforce a competitive edge, they'll be able to gain access to what they need through the site." The new look site features streamlined site navigation, with sharper presentation of online tools. New features and sections have been introduced, such as course searches, location maps, additional news sections, and a marketing gateway page. It has also improved access to the e-learning resources and enhanced the discussion forums. Included in the redevelopment of the site is a new Quick Works Tour - designed, using a notebook style, to give an overview of how this exciting service can help people achieve their goals. The site features a range of courses which will help improve business development and skills, with information on more than 2,500 learning opportunities throughout the Highlands and Islands. In addition to the latest information and news on skills development, the easy-to-use site includes online assessment to review an organisation's or individual's needs, and helps provide solutions with information on sector trends and services. Log on to LearningWorks for further information.
Accessibility The Learningworks website, designed to be visually attractive to sighted people, does not fully work in text-only - and, therefore, text-to-voice formats. If you would like to browse the Learningworks short course directory in text-only format, you can use the HIE website's events calendar.
