Management training for Moray businesses

Management training for Moray businesses
05 September 2006

Small businesses within Moray can take advantage of a management development programme, designed to meet the needs of local managers, owners of businesses and other organisations.

The programme has been run successfully for five years and has been awarded national recognition by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).   It has been developed by Lesley Jones and Mike Dunthorne of Lesley Jones Consultancy based outside Dingwall, who will provide the training, commencing on the 8th November in the Mansefield Hotel, Elgin and running until May 2007.

The development of leadership and management skills will be promoted throughout the programme with the availability of individual coaching sessions.  The six workshops include Learning and Performance management, Leadership, Recruitment, Selection and Interviewing Skills, Team Working, Effective Use of Time and Change Management.  Delegates who successfully complete the programme and two assignments receive the ILM Leadership programme award and are also eligible for Affiliate membership of ILM.

Lesley Jones said:  "Every year, Mike and I are stunned by the growth in confidence and ability of the participants.  The changes they make in their own organisations and in the way they contribute are well considered, effective and successful.  We encourage networking - many past participants are still in contact with, and gaining a lot from each other."

Local businesses who take part in the training programme would benefit as it is important for them to develop their skills in leadership and management and to give them an opportunity to network with other managers in the area."

Alan McDonald, development manager at HIE Moray said:  "We ran these courses last year to businesses in Moray and they were very well received.  These courses fill an identified gap in training provision for small businesses, as well as supporting our aim to increase skills and develop community strengths, leadership and confidence."

This initiative has received support of £27,600 from HIE Moray.  As a result, the majority of the process is fully funded, available at a reduced cost to the companies involved.
