| Scottish fare tipped to whet national appetities | |
| 04 September 2006 Queen scallops in a juniper marinade, fermented whey drink and smoked goats cheese, are among a host of Scottish products being sampled by buyers from across the globe today (Tuesday). Over 40 Scottish producers have travelled down to the Speciality and Fine Food Fair at Olympia in London which began on Sunday (September 3) and will conclude today with a visit from Ross Finnie, Minister for the Environment and Rural Affairs. The show is an essential destination for restaurateurs, chefs, delicatessen owners, retailers, wholesalers and distributors keen to sign up for supplies of the finest fare in Britain. The event's Scottish pavilion has been organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) on behalf of Scottish Food & Drink after their successful performance in managing the pavilion's debut at the show in 2005. This year the Scottish exhibition has expanded and will be the largest regional stand at the fair. Among the more traditional products such as smoked fish, seafood and shortbread, are new temptations such as organic roast peanuts, currant wine, hazelnut honey and chocolate organic cream and wine liqueur. Mark Georgeson, HIE's senior food and drink manager said: "We expect that the very strong range of products Scottish companies have brought to Olympia this year will meet with rigorous demand. As well as gaining orders, this event is enabling them to meet and network with others and to share insights into the many of aspects of bringing a product successfully to consumers' shopping baskets." | |
