| 13 July 2006 News release issued by our partners Scottish Enterprise. Inaugural Globalscot conference - EICC, Edinburgh September 27–28 2006Two hundred of the world's most successful business people and entrepreneurs will gather in Scotland in September 2006 with a single aim – to help accelerate the growth of Scottish companies through sharing their knowledge, experience and contacts. The inaugural Globalscot conference will bring together around 200 globalscot members and 250 Scottish companies to explore ways in which the combined expertise can assist companies in their development plans both in Scotland and overseas. "The conference is the first opportunity for globalscots to come together at an international event of this scale," explained Mark Hallan, Head of Globalscot at Scottish Enterprise. "It gives globalscots the chance to network with their peers and forge partnerships with Scotland's best and brightest companies. Any business serious about its own growth should take advantage of this unique opportunity to talk to some of the best in their field at a time when they are solely focused on helping them." Globalscot is a network of over 900 Scots, and those with a strong affiliation for Scotland, working in senior business positions around the world who offer their time, advice and contacts for free to help Scottish businesses succeed. The network's members span sectors from electronics, life sciences and financial services to energy and tourism. Most are working in senior positions within global organisations or running their own companies and are spread across the globe with representation in all key markets in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific. Among the globalscots who will be attending the event are:
"Globalscot members either work in or have personal connections with seven out of the top ten companies in the Fortune Global 500 list. Accessing the combined knowledge, experience and contacts of such a group is an advantage money simply could not buy to a company with ambition," explained Mark Hallan. Irvine based company, 10BaseCom, has frequently accessed the globalscot resource to support its own growth. Steve Brannagan, Director of 10BaseCom said, "As a fast growing technology company headquartered in Ayrshire, and with global ambitions, the ability to tap into an international network of senior, well connected Scots operating in many of the world's largest companies is invaluable. The advice and support that 10BaseCom has received from globalscot members has unquestionably benefited our company. I would strongly encourage ambitious Scottish companies to attend the globalscot conference and make connections with key global decision makers which will hopefully benefit their company as it has mine." Following a welcome address from First Minister Jack McConnell, the conference programme will include a mixture of 'big picture' conference briefings as well as industry specific intelligence and one on one discussions to help delegates get the most out of their access to some of the world's most influential people in today's global industries. The conference is the brainchild of Scottish Enterprise's globalscot team and its main sponsors are Clydesdale Bank and VisitScotland's Business Tourism Unit.
