Unique expedition in the picture
23 June 2006

A team of six has pushed back the modern-day frontiers of knowledge, technology and exploration, by completing a 600km inclusive traverse of the vast empty Arctic desert of Greenland’s ice-cap. One of the expedition team members, Karen Darke, is paralysed from the chest down. Careers Scotland - Inverness and East Highland locality - tapped-into this expedition's challenges as a vehicle for school pupils to develop essential life and work-related skills.

Downloadable expedition photo albums, in Adobe pdf format, are now available here.

This photographic record is also available in the team's blog column which follows their often difficult progress over an intensive four-week period. Over coming weeks we hope to accumulate more pictures, stories and updates.

The pdf files here represent three separate, short albums - mostly pictures taken by Pasi Ikonen, one of the team:

  • Album one shows the first part of the team's journey
  • Album two shows meetings with the Greenland girls and Lou and Mark at Dye 2
  • Album three records difficult progress towards the journey's end

The Adobe pdf files are best viewed by opening them, selecting 'full screen view' in the Acrobat Reader 'window' menu - then using your keyboard's left and right arrow keys to view the slideshow. You can also progress the show using mouse-clicks.
