| Moray new directions job fair - a success | |
| 27 April 2006 RAF leavers met with Moray employers yesterday [Wed 26 April] at a jobs fair aimed to help their careers take off in the right direction. Over 180 RAF leavers attended the New Directions job fair, at the Mansefield Hotel, Elgin. The fair featured 21 exhibitors (including 15 from the private sector), and a further 20 employers attended to network with the service personnel. Local business and support agency stands, seminars, expert advice and opportunities to network and gather information on self-employment were available. This was an essential event for employers looking for high-calibre people for their workforce to meet RAF leavers who are skilled, disciplined and self-motivated, and are exploring opportunities for future careers in Moray and the Highlands. The event followed the announcement last year that RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Kinloss will shed more than 900 jobs over the next seven years. James Gibbs, chief executive of HIE Moray, said: "We were very pleased with the success of this initial pilot. We're also pleased with the participation from the private sector as well as the RAF. We will be looking at how to build on this initial success. This event was part of our strategy to help those who want to stay in Moray to find high quality employment. It is clear from today that many of those leaving the RAF would like to stay here in Moray as it is a great place to live. HIE Moray would like to thank everyone who attended and particularly all the exhibitors for fully participating in New Directions." | |
