| New directions - Moray employers meet RAF leavers | |
| 11 April 2006 RAF leavers and employers in Moray are being invited to take part in a jobs fair to discuss opportunities for mutual benefit. New Directions is a dedicated jobs fair organised by HIE Moray to introduce local employers and RAF leavers to each other. The fair will feature local business and support agency stands, seminars, expert advice and opportunities to network and gather information on self-employment. This month will see the announcement of the third round of redundancies for the Royal Air Force, in which it is anticipated there will be a total loss of some 1,100 personnel. Given that Moray's airbases comprise around 10% of the RAF's total uniformed strength, the loss of about 110 jobs will have a significant impact for Moray. This round of redundancies is part of the process announced last April in which both air bases were to lose a total of 935 posts. It is estimated the overall cuts will result in a loss of £15 million annual spend in Moray. HIE Moray has set up an RAF Task Force project team to mitigate the impact of this through a broad range of projects planned under the Moray 2020 strategy. One of the themes detailed in Moray 2020 relates to the retention of RAF leavers in Moray. The Task Force has arranged the jobs fair, which will provide the opportunity for local employers to discover more about the transferable skills of RAF personnel and how to go about arranging job placements. RAF leavers will also attend the event to investigate local job opportunities. Those businesses wishing to attend the event can register on-line at www.morayjobsfair.co.uk. | |
