Partnership approach pays dividends for Argyll firm
17 October 2005

An Argyll business is going from strength to strength thanks to its dedication to improving standards and commitment to quality systems.

Nevis Marine Ltd from Oban provides a range of services to the aquaculture and food industries. These include designing systems to optimise the quality of farmed salmon and wellboat management services.

Helping these companies devise quality and environmental systems to ISO standard as well as designing personnel systems and general management services are other strands in which the business excels.

Leading the company in this important area is Jacqui MacPherson who has a wealth of experience in total quality management principles. After joining Nevis Marine earlier this year she received a workforce development grant of £1,115 from Argyll and the Islands Enterprise (AIE).

This assistance enabled Jacqui to develop her skills further through an approved training course as a lead auditor for ISO Management Systems. This now allows her to provide industry acknowledged certification to carry out second and third party audits.

Jacqui MacPherson said: "At Nevis Marine we always work within a trusted and confidential partnership with clients. We can help small and medium sized businesses take advantage of the most appropriate training initiatives and personnel systems for their needs. When businesses are growing it sometimes only requires our skill and expertise to help set these systems up and hand them over to their staff for ongoing implementation.

"We can also write company induction, appraisal and training plans and can assist in the development and delivery of effective cost saving incentives. These include workforce development grants, administration of Skillseekers and Modern Apprentice documentation and Investors in People requirements."

Jacqui is also keen to support the role of women in business - particularly those working in remote areas or in isolation. She is a member of the Highland Business Women's Club which offers support, advice and networking opportunities for keeping up to date with regional business events.

Lachie Beaton, business development manager from AIE said: "Jacqui and Nevis Marine have proved that a positive attitude to ongoing skills development pays dividends. They are a local company with an emerging international focus and understand the opportunities and challenges in their field."
