| 20 September 2005 Calling all businesses... Learning Works - website forum - Starts Wednesday 21st September 2005. Hosted by Angela Manson Chair of Highlands and Islands Equality Forum, this 'Hot Topic' will seek to address the gaps in understanding of both the legislative position relating to discrimination and equality in the workplace and also the benefits that can accrue to businesses which effectively manage a diverse workforce. Prior to the start date for this Hot Topic, questions for this expert-led discussion hosted by Angela can be emailed to admin@zolk.biz following the start date, any discussion issues should be raised directly through the Hot Topic forum. Highlands and Islands Equality Forum (HIEF) started in 2002 to assess the need for information and to deliver training on equality issues in the Highlands and Islands. Over the past year, the work of the project has developed dramatically. The focus at the moment is to raise awareness of why it is important for organisations and businesses to treat their people fairly – whether these people are clients and volunteers or customers and employees. More and more people are beginning to understand the benefits to be gained when we include and don’t exclude anyone from employment or services. This increased willingness to view the potential of any given individual rather than their disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, age etc is welcome in our area and endorsed by HIEF, major public, private and voluntary organisations, and all who campaign for equality. The HIEF team also respond to many direct requests for information and advice. There is a library of resources in the HIEF offices that can be accessed by visitors on request. HIEF keep up to date with all new legislation and have close links with many Equality organisations. By joining the HIEF mailing list, you can ensure that you are kept informed too.
