| 14 March 2005 Business leaders in Orkney are reaping the benefits of the recently formed Orkney Director Development Network. The ten business men and women who were selected to join the Network benefit from regular group meetings and workshops, executive coaching and 24 hour advice and guidance from the Institute of Directors (IoD), who oversee the Network. Allan Sturrock, of the Scottish Director Development Centre (SDDC) part of the IoD, co-ordinates the Network. He said: "Members of the Orkney Director Development Network benefit from membership in a number of ways. The Network gives company directors a support system dedicated to providing unrivalled personal and professional development in Scotland." Liz Foubister, speaking on behalf of the members of the Orkney Director Development Network said: "We have all found membership of the Network really worthwhile. It offers us a unique range of support services and programmes, without the inconvenience of having to leave Orkney. "So far the workshops have covered strategy, innovation and creative thinking and the critical issues facing business people in an island environment." Participation is via invitation and members pay a fee for their 12 month membership. The project has been supported by Orkney Enterprise. Chessa Llewellyn-White, a development manager with Orkney Enterprise, said: "This Network is important for the senior business people in Orkney as it allows them to come together to share experiences and learn from each other. "It is not always easy to get the support and guidance needed as a senior business person in a small community but this group gives them the support of other business leaders in Orkney as well as meeting and discussing business related issues with experts from the rest of Scotland." | |
