Highlands and Islands Enterprise response to European Commission audit

Highlands and Islands Enterprise has today - 8 February 2005 - published details of its response to a European Commission (EC) audit of projects which benefited from EC Objective 1 funding between 1994 and 1999.

The economic and community development agency has taken this step in the interests of balance and openness in light of continuing media interest in the auditors’ interim report.

HIE was the lead agency in seven of 14 projects audited last year in the first phase of a routine investigation. The agency’s response to questions raised by the auditors was submitted to the Scottish Executive last November to be forwarded to the EC. A detailed summary is published here.
