19 October 2004

A Grantown company is expanding in response to growing demand for its meat and traditional Scottish products.

Stuart Grant Quality Meats is extending its premises at Strathspey Industrial Estate in a £172,000 development which will lead to the creation of around 10 new jobs.

Local enterprise company Moray Badenoch and Strathspey Enterprise (MBSE) is providing £34,000 funding for the project.

The company was set up in 1996 by Stuart Grant, who has been involved in the meat industry for more than 30 years.

Extending its premises will allow the company to meet increasing demand from existing clients and to seek new customers.

In addition to its existing wholesale range, the firm will be developing  "kitchen ready" products, such as stuffed chicken and pork and marinated meats, aimed at the hotel and catering industry. The extended premises will also enable the company to meet huge demand from all over the country for its black pudding.

Stuart Grant said: "We have reached production capacity in our current facilities and expanding the premises will help us meet the needs of our existing customers increase our market.

"We are grateful for the funding MBSE has provided to help make this development possible."

Douglas Yule, chief executive of MBSE, said: "Stuart Grant Quality Meats has, over the past eight years, established an excellent reputation and a built a strong and growing customer base, which has made this expansion necessary.

"We are delighted to have been able to assist with this project which will see the company continue to grow and provide more jobs in the Grantown area.
