New Directors for Orkney Enterprise
20 September 2004

The board of Orkney Enterprise has been strengthened with the appointment of two new directors, bringing with them vast experience from Orkney's tourism and industry sectors.

Joining the local enterprise company's board is Roy Brown and Cameron Taylor, who will attend their first board meeting on Thursday 23rd September.

Mr Brown is the co-director of Orkney Aggregates Ltd, which took over the quarrying, concrete and haulage divisions from Orkney Builders in 1999.

Roy was born and brought up in Orkney and has always resided on the islands.  On leaving school he trained as a multi-disciplinary engineer and went on to owning his own trailer manufacturing business.

In 1989 he moved into quarrying and was quarry manager for Orkney Islands Council during construction of the inter-island ferry terminals.

Roy is a keen sailor and has an interest in motor sports.  He is also a member of the steering group of the Orkney Zero Waste Initiative.

Talking about his new role, Roy said: "I am looking forward to working with the staff and other directors of Orkney Enterprise and hope that I can be of help in the enterprise company's activities."

Joining Roy on the board is Cameron Taylor.  Mr Taylor returned to Orkney in 1996 after a career in the civil service to become chief executive of Orkney Tourist Board.

Five years ago he became a partner in Seabridge Consultants, an Orkney based management consulting and design agency specialising in tourism and heritage projects.  Seabridge works with a network of associates and suppliers and has undertaken projects throughout Scotland, in the US, Canada and Estonia.

One area of particular interest to Cameron is the developing field of ancestral tourism.  He has undertaken several projects and has written and lectured on the subject.

His other interests include reading, crafts and Open University study.

Cameron said: "I am keen to ensure that the agenda takes account of the local indigenous industries and heritage as well as progressing new business ideas and community developments."

Commenting on the changes to the board Orkney Enterprise chairman, Brian Kynoch said: "I am delighted to welcome Roy and Cameron to the board.  They bring a wealth of experience to the table and can contribute much to the work of Orkney Enterprise.

"I would also like to pass on my sincere thanks to Tim Hartmann and George Kirkpatrick, who are retiring from the board, for all their hard work with Orkney Enterprise over the past six years."
