Dunvegan garage upgrade

Dunvegan garage upgrade
30 August 2004

An established Skye business, Kenny's Garage, based in Dunvegan, has been upgraded and had its services enhanced with help from the local enterprise company.

Over the past 12 years Kenny Munro has built up a large customer base in north west Skye preparing vehicles for MOT.  Previously the MOT test had to be carried out 25 miles from Dunvegan, in Portree, which was very inconvenient for many people.

Kenny's previous premises were not suitable to cope with the growing demand for motor repair services and did not allow space for another much needed employee.  But with building and development grant assistance from SALE of £29,500 towards total project costs of £108,440, Kenny's Garage has relocated to Lonemore Industrial site.

The new garage has a fully licensed MOT station and space for four to six vehicles to be under cover at any one time.  An innovative internet based 'stock search' and booking system can also provide a 24-hour quick and efficient service.

Kenny said: "My wife, Alison, and I would like to thank SALE for their support and are sure our new premises will allow us to provide a faster and more convenient service to our customers."

Calum Macpherson, SALE development manager, said: "SALE is able to help small businesses in a variety of ways from start-up support in terms of financial backing and valuable business advice to grants to help businesses grow and develop.

"Kenny's Garage providing an MOT testing station on the north west coast of Skye will be of great benefit to the local community and provides full time employment in this fragile area."
