Forbes Jackson joins the North Highland College board
15 March 2004

Forbes Jackson, a Ross and Cromarty Enterprise (RACE) board member, joins the board of the North Highland College today (Monday 15th March).

Forbes joined the RACE board in September 2002 following his return to the Easter Ross area, having taught in various parts of the Highlands since 1964.  For a period he was seconded to Lochaber College as general manager.

Forbes continues to work as an occasional secondary supply teacher with Highland Council and is a Community Councillor on Tain Community Council.  He has various other interests in the Tain area such being a member of Duthac Centre management committee, the Tain and district museum trust and the Garrick Singers.  Forbes is also the RACE nominated representative on the UHI Foundation.

The UHI Foundation is a broadly based group with representation from the business, community, health and local authority sectors and also includes staff and students.  Its purpose is to advise and support the mission of UHI Millennium Institute and the creation of a University of the Highlands and Islands and to act as a channel for a two-way flow of information between UHI and its various constituencies.

At the North Highland College board meeting tonight, Forbes will be introduced to the other members of the board.

Philip Arthur, chairman of the North Highland College, said: "We are delighted to welcome someone with such an extensive experience of the educational sector within the Highlands as Forbes to the board of the North Highland College.

"With the wide geographical spread of the College from Alness in the South to Thurso in the North it is important that the membership of the College Board reflects this.  With his strong links within the Easter Ross area, Forbes is an excellent addition to the board and we look forward to his future involvement with all aspects of the North Highland College."

Commenting on his appointment Forbes said: "As a firm believer in 'lifelong learning' I am really happy to be joining the board of a college which has already achieved so much for further and higher education, not only in the north but also across the UHI Millennium Institute network."
