Ross-shire community resource centre opens
15 March 2004

Charles Kennedy MP will officially open Thorfin House, a community resource centre for Ross-shire, today (Monday 15th March).

Ross-shire Voluntary Action (RVA) set up Thorfin House, with support from Ross and Cromarty Enterprise (RACE), who assisted the project with a grant of £11,000.

Thorfin House will bring together resources and improve current facilities and services in 'user friendly' accommodation for local community and voluntary groups.

RVA was established in 1971 to provide support to the local voluntary sector.  The support takes many forms, from providing centralised office based services to advisory and representative roles.

Alan Gartshore from RVA said: "This is a great new resource that will help us to support local voluntary organisations throughout Ross-shire by either providing accommodation for them or administrative assistance.  It will provide an opportunity for the community to undertake their own development locally.

"We have had a lot of support from RACE, Highland Opportunity Limited and the Highland Council and would like to thank everyone involved in this venture for their continued support."

Commenting on the opening of Thorfin House Marshall Doig, a senior development manager with RACE said: "There are only three resource centres in the Highlands at present so this new resource for Ross-shire will prove invaluable for the voluntary organisations which play such a vital role in this area."
