| Chairman appointed to head up Tiree development initiative | |
| 25 March 2003 The Tiree Development Partnership has appointed a new chairman. Cameron Kennedy has family connections to the Island and knows Tiree and its residents well. Despite his already busy schedule as a prominent solicitor in Glasgow, Cameron is a regular visitor to Tiree both on business and pleasure and is looking forward to the challenges the initiative will undoubtedly bring. He is committed to attending the quarterly Partnership meetings on Tiree and will also be involved in the forthcoming Community Conference on Saturday 17th May when he hopes to hear at first hand the views of local people and their aspirations for the future of the Island. In accepting the position, Cameron said: "I am flattered at being asked to head up this exciting project and hope that, as chairman, I will maintain a balanced view of development proposals which emerge as time goes on. "This is a tremendous opportunity for Tiree with the demonstrated commitment of the Partner agencies who will work closely with the Tiree people to achieve a sustainable and vibrant Island community for future generations." The Tiree Development Partnership was initiated by Argyll & the Islands Enterprise and has been established with funding commitments from Scottish Natural Heritage and the Crofters' Commission. Other partners include representatives from the Tiree community, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, Argyll & Bute Council and with Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd and Caledonian MacBrayne as associate partners. | |
