Rousay breaks for Easter
24 March 2003

Rousay folk have come up with an offer for a special Easter weekend and they're calling it the Rousay Easter Eggs-travaganza.

Designed to attract locals and visitors alike to spend some time getting to know the island, the offer provides a very generous itinerary - including two nights bed and breakfast accommodation, dinner with live music on the first night followed by a dinner dance on the second, guided tours, activity workshops and special Easter games for children, all for a single price per person.  The weekend starts with the 6.05 pm ferry crossing on Friday 18 April from Tingwall to Rousay and ends with a return crossing by chartered boat leaving Rousay at 4 pm on Sunday 20 April.

The initiative is the brain child of Visit Rousay, a group set up to develop tourism in Rousay and to increase the number of overnight stays by visitors and is being backed by the Orkney Marketing Scheme.  Louise Swanney, marketing assistant at Orkney Enterprise, said, " We are very keen to support initiatives designed to increase the volume and value of tourism to the islands and have been greatly encouraged by the success of other initiatives we have supported."

Visit Rousay's chair person, Mrs Itha Flaws added, "Rousay has so much to offer but the majority of our visitors come for just one day, perhaps thinking there isn't much to see, only to find they've run out of time to see all of the attractions we have here. This initiative is designed to not only tempt people to stay overnight but to show them the range of activities and attractions we can offer.  We think they will have such a good time they will tell their friends and encourage them to visit."
