Moray businesses could benefit from Dounreay decommissioning
11 March 2003

Businesses in the Moray area are being invited to a special seminar in Elgin next Thursday (20th March) to discuss the future money-making opportunities that could be created by the £4 billion task of decommissioning the Dounreay nuclear site in Caithness.

The event has been organised by Moray Badenoch and Strathspey Enterprise who stress that many non-specialist skills and supplies will be needed from civil engineering and construction work to day-to-day goods like the food required for the 2,500-plus workforce at the Caithness site.

Development officer for key industries at MBSE, Kathleen Brims, said:  "The decommissioning of Dounreay is a massive project that is expected to take around 60 years to complete and create many opportunities for Highland businesses.  While Moray may seem a long way from Caithness there will be real business opportunities for companies in this area.  We are very keen that these are identified as early as possible and local companies can plan their individual strategies ahead and make the most of opportunities as and when they arise."

The Dounreay seminar will take place at 5.30 p.m. in the Mansefield Hotel, Elgin on Thursday 20th March, and companies will be able to register their interest in receiving free information about contracts at Dounreay as well as other projects.

Those wishing to attend should contact Keira Simpson at MBSE on 01309 696010.
