Glastonbury heads north for Sutherland folk festival
03 September 2002

If you go down to the woods next week, you are sure of big surprise!  Borgie Forest, Strathnaver is the location for a unique musical extravaganza next Saturday night (14th September).

With assistance from Caithness and Sutherland Enterprise (CASE) "Glaston-Borgie" features popular north bands Broken Chord and Novacaine with Rhythm `n' Reel topping the bill.

The woodland evening concert, which could have easily been billed "Tree in the Dark", follows the Borgie Forest Open Day with highlights such as quad races, wood working demos and a fire fighting display.

Anna MacConnell, Community Economic Development manager with CASE said: "This is special event for the community and we are delighted to be working with Forest Enterprise to make the day possible. It is a unique event for visitors and locals alike and could be the beginning of an annual event at Borgie.  They say big trees grow out of little acorns!"

"Glaston-Borgie" features as part of the Sutherland Folk Festival which kicked off on Saturday (31st August) and runs until the end of September (Saturday 28th).

Festival organiser Geordie Jack said: "We are grateful to CASE for their assistance with the Sutherland Folk Festival which features a vast range of entertainment and events including free `live music' in several hotels.

"There will be a musical jam session in a former baker's shop in Golspie, a lone piper on the castle roof in Dornoch, food fayres in Durness and Dornoch and a dance in Golspie's nostalgic Drill Hall.  There will be much more besides and all the information is listed on the Festival website."
